Tolcarne beach
The beach at Tolcarne is sandy at all states of the tide. At low tide, Tolcarne, Great Western and Towan beach all merge into a single beach stretching to the harbour. On spring tides, this also extends in the other direction to Lusty Glaze. Access from the top of the cliffs involves a couple of hundred steps which connects to the beach via the holiday complex at the base of the cliffs.
The beach takes its name from Tolcarne Point, itself named from the Cornish for "rock outcrop on the brow of a hill". Since this is not an uncommon landscape feature in Cornwall, the name crops up in quite a few other places.
